Is Your Browser Blocking Flash Player?Last week, a critical vulnerability was detected with versions of Adobe Flash Player. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via maliciously crafted Flash content.

Web browser Firefox responded by temporarily blocking the Flash Player plugin on their software. Other web browsers soon followed, impacting the performance and functionality of many websites, such as Disney’s New Fantasyland.

Adobe Flash

Adobe Flash is a popular but much-maligned multimedia platform used on many interactive sites to play content, ads, videos, or games.

The software is often criticized for being a security risk. Steve Jobs famously dissed the software for its “lousy performance” and others felt Flash was stifling the adoption of HTML5, an open source web language.

In 2011, Adobe announced they would no longer develop Flash Player for mobile browsers.

Adobe Has Released Security Update

Adobe has since issued a fix in a software update. You can find it here.

The comic below is suggesting that Flash will go the way of another scorned program: Internet Explorer. Microsoft announced earlier this year that their current web browser will be replaced by an all new application called Edge.Is Your Browser Blocking Flash Player?Comic via CommitStrip
